It’s been a busy week. But a week of one step forward, and two steps back. Making progress, overcoming a few hurdles while waiting a patience game.
Started the week with a great clear out of more ‘stuff’. Old bookcases dismantled and garden tidied. Garage cleared. Two trips to the recycling centre. Boxes of stuff ready for the charity shops when they reopen after lockdown.
Property search
Lots of online searching for a property to rent. Moving to a rented property following the sale of a house is always tricky. It’s a fine balance of timing as rental properties don’t wait for the sale of the house.
Demand outstrips supply by about five to one. Rental properties are being taken the day after they go on the websites. Houses are moving so quickly the agents don’t need to call prospective tenants. The notification ping from various apps goes off regularly. A quick check followed by an email to the agents. And wait.
This week. two viewings have been cancelled as the houses have gone within hours. First come, first served for rental property is something I had misjudged.
Date to be advised…..
It’s also tricky until I have a defined date for exchange and completion. A request for a quick progress on the legal activity of the house sale resulted in a flurry of more queries from the buyers solicitor.
Still no indication of a date other than ‘before Christmas’. That doesn’t help when trying to rent a property so there is sufficient overlap and not making a commitment of six-months rental without confidence of a timeline. As before, continue to hold my nerve.
Ended the week with an unscheduled trip to London for work. Definitely something I couldn’t do while ‘working from home’. A worthwhile trip, but delayed other work. Still, there is another day for report writing and clearing emails.
Plans afoot for next week. Two viewings scheduled (so long as they are not cancelled). More boxes to be filled.
Fingers crossed, smoother progress next week.
